Independent studio - UK
We go too far
into one thing.
On purpose.
Burnt and Toast Studios makes software that teaches. We pick something people already love, dig into it further than is reasonable, and turn what comes back up into an app you can hold in one hand. You buy it once. It is yours. No ads, no subscription, nothing sold on behind your back.
Burnt & Toast Studios Ltd - a UK limited company, incorporated 2026.
First out of the door: Dartistry, a strategy coach for 501 darts.
Burnt at the edges. Still good.
How we work
Six things we will not get wrong.
A studio is what it refuses to ship. These hold for everything we make, whatever the subject turns out to be, and they are the reason it takes us longer than it probably should.
Why, not just what.
Anyone can hand you the right answer. Understanding why it is right is the part that carries into the next decision, and the thousand after it. So we show what a choice actually costs, because small decisions repeated often are what quietly decide how you perform over a season.
Varied, or it is homework.
Nobody improves at something they have stopped opening. One idea taught six different ways reaches six different people, and it keeps reaching the same person on a Tuesday when they cannot face a drill. Variety is not decoration - it is what keeps the practice happening at all.
Tailored, at every level.
The right answer changes with who is asking it. Advice pitched at the top of the game is actively wrong for most people, and advice pitched at beginners bores everyone else. So the experience meets you where you are and moves as you do - never one built for somebody else.
Fun and learning are not a trade.
Most software makes you choose: the serious part that improves you, or the enjoyable part that passes an hour. We think that split is a design failure. The playful corners run on the same engine as the serious ones, so an evening spent enjoying yourself still leaves you better than it found you.
Clean, and quiet about it.
Every element has to earn its place. No ornament for its own sake, no clutter added to look feature-rich, no interface talking over the thing you opened it to do. Modern and calm, so that the content is the loudest thing on the screen.
Built for the thing in your hand.
A phone is not a small tablet, and neither of them is a website. Every screen we ship is laid out for each device it will actually land on, rather than scaled down and hoped for. If it feels like an afterthought on your device, it is not finished.
The first one
Dartistry.
A strategy coach for 501 darts. Not a scorer and not a throw tracker - it teaches the decision: which treble, which setup dart, which double to leave yourself, and what the likely miss leaves you on.
Underneath it is a solved model of the game. On top of it are modes that meet you where you are, so what it tells a new player and what it tells a good one are different answers - on purpose. The rest is best seen rather than described.
The studio
Small, and staying that way.
Burnt & Toast Studios Ltd is a UK limited company, incorporated in 2026 to put Dartistry out properly. It is a small, independent operation, self-funded, with nobody to answer to about quarterly engagement numbers.
The name is not an accident. Things that get made properly usually get made more than once, and the good version is the one that came out of the pile of the burnt ones. We would rather show you the finished slice and keep the failures in the bin, but the failures are where the work happens.
Apps that leave you better at something.
Darts first, because it is a game with real, solvable decisions in it that almost nobody is taught. The category is wider than darts, and the approach does not change: find the depth that already exists in a subject, then make it usable in the ten minutes someone actually has.
One thing at a time.
Dartistry gets a full release, then support, then whatever it teaches us about what to build next. We are not going to announce a roadmap of things that do not exist yet. If you want to know when something lands, write to us and we will tell you.
Say hello
Two doors, both open.
Real people read both of these. Press, partnerships, awkward technical questions and general correspondence all welcome.
